Design and implementation of a monitoring system applied to a long-span prestressed concrete bridge

چکیده
Currently long-term monitoring systems are mandatory in major civil engineering structures like bridges, tunnels and dams. Generally, they monitor a set of physical, chemical and mechanical parameters in critical sections of the structure by incorporating appropriated sensors. The set of collected data demonstrates great potential in the prevention of damage and contributes to a more efficient maintenance of the monitored structures. This work presents the long-term monitoring system installed in the new Lezíria Bridge over the Tagus River in Portugal. The system was developed to control some aspects of the construction process and to survey the service life of the structure. A set of structural, durability and environmental parameters defining the bridge condition are remotely assessed in real time via a fiber optic network. Aspects like architecture, installation and functionalities of the monitoring system are discussed and the innovative aspects of the implementation are highlighted. In this context, the main goal of this work is to present the long-term monitoring system of the Lezíria Bridge, sharing the experiences, the solutions and the procedures adopted, given their potential usefulness in the implementation of similar projects.

Development and Practical Application of a Lifetime Management System for Prestressed Concrete Bridges
A practical Bridge Management System has been developed by the author, which is referred to as the Japanese Bridge Management System (J-BMS) for existing concrete bridges. This paper introduces a newly developed bridge management system for the prestressed concrete (PC) bridges (J-BMS PC version) which is integrated with the PC bridge rating expert system (PC-BREX). The proposed system is able ...

Since the 1950’s, prestressed concrete beams have become a factor in almost one third of all new bridge construction in the United States. In Michigan, prestressed concrete was introduced in 1954 and the first prestressed concrete side-by-side box-beam bridge was built in 1955. Pontis data indicates 2,054 side-by-side prestressed concrete box-beam bridges in Michigan; 236 are part of the Nation...
متن کاملField Performance of Prestressed High Performance Concrete Highway Bridges in Texas
16. Abstract Two prestressed high performance concrete (HPC) highway bridges were constructed in Texas utilizing concrete with 56 day design strengths of up to 97 MPa (14,000 psi). The utilization of HPC allowed for longer spans and larger girder spacing than typically used in conventional prestressed concrete bridges. An extensive research program was conducted to monitor the shortand long-ter...

Nagisa Bridge, a single span footbridge, was recently completed in Aomori prefecture, Japan. The structure of this bridge is a hybrid structure of cable-stayed prestressed concrete bridge and steel suspension bridge. It is the first application as this structure type of bridge in the world. Concrete girders near pylons are supported by stay cables. Steel girders are supported by suspension cabl...
متن کاملDesign and Construction of a Reinforcement Free Concrete Bridge Deck on Precast Bulb Tee Girders
This presentation describes the concepts involved in design and construction of a reinforcement-free bridge deck intended to provide cost effective, durable and more rapid construction for highway bridges. The new wide flanged or bulb tee precast prestressed concrete girder sections currently used in bridges allow for a shorter effective span for the bridge deck because of the wide girder flang...
